"Crawled - currently not indexed": what it means and how to fix it

Google crawled the page and decided not to index it, usually because of quality or value signals.

What it means

Google fetched the page and read it, then chose not to add it to the index. There is no technical error. Google judged that the page does not add enough value compared to other pages, on your site or elsewhere. Google can re-evaluate the page later.

Common causes

  • Thin content: the page has little unique text.
  • The page is very similar to other pages on your site, such as template pages with only a few words changed.
  • Few internal links point to the page, so it looks unimportant.
  • The site publishes many pages quickly, faster than its authority supports.

How to fix it

  • Add unique, useful content that answers a real search question.
  • Merge near-duplicate pages into one stronger page, and redirect the others.
  • Link to the page from strong, related pages on your site, such as the home page, category pages, or popular articles.
  • Update the page, set an accurate lastmod in the sitemap, and let CrawlCoach resubmit it.

How to find these pages

In Search Console, open Indexing > Pages and select the "Crawled - currently not indexed" row. Search Console shows up to 1,000 example URLs. CrawlCoach checks up to 10,000 URLs from your sitemap for each site and groups them by cause, so you fix the most valuable pages first.
