Why isn't my GoDaddy website showing on Google?

A GoDaddy website often misses Google because it is new, unpublished, or not in Search Console yet. Here are the causes, in order, and each fix.

Why your GoDaddy website isn't on Google

Check these in order. The first ones keep the whole site off Google. The last ones keep single pages off.

  1. The site is new. GoDaddy's help says a new site can take a week or more to be found, and another week or two to reach Google's index. Search Google for site: followed by your domain, such as site:example.com. If nothing shows, Google likely has none of your pages yet. URL Inspection in Search Console gives the exact answer for each page.
  2. Your changes aren't published, or the site is still on a free trial. Changes in GoDaddy's website builder don't go live until you publish. On a free trial, you must pick a paid plan before you can connect your own domain.
  3. A page carries noindex. Inspect the page in URL Inspection. If Indexing allowed? says No, look in the page's settings and in any custom code you added to the page.
  4. Your robots.txt blocks pages. Open /robots.txt on your domain. Make sure no Disallow line matches the pages you want found.
  5. Search Console doesn't have your site. Add a Domain property in Search Console. If GoDaddy manages your domain, add the TXT record Google gives you in your GoDaddy DNS settings. Then submit your sitemap.
  6. Pages say too little. GoDaddy's SEO tool, under Marketing > SEO in your dashboard, adds keywords to up to 5 pages. Keywords alone don't get a page on Google. Each page needs text that answers what people search for.
  7. Few links point to your site. Link every page from your menu. Get a few links from real sites: suppliers, local groups, and directories in your field.

If only some pages are missing: the three most common reasons on GoDaddy

Search Console shows the reason for each page in Indexing > Pages. These three come up most on GoDaddy.

  1. Why it happens
A new site with few links from other sites gets few visits from Google at first.
    The fix
Link each page from your menu and home page. Get links from real sites in your field.
  2. Why it happens
Template pages with a heading, a photo, and a few lines look alike and say little.
    The fix
Write a few paragraphs of your own on each page you want found: what you offer, where, for whom, and at what price.
  3. Why it happens
New pages on a new site have no links pointing to them yet, and Google may not have read your sitemap.
    The fix
Submit your sitemap in Search Console, link the page from your menu, and click Request indexing in URL Inspection.

Where your sitemap is

GoDaddy's help center doesn't say where the website builder's sitemap lives. Open /sitemap.xml on your domain. If it loads, submit it in Search Console. If it doesn't, Google can still find your pages through your menu.

Questions

Do I have to submit my GoDaddy website to Google?

No. Google finds sites through links. But Search Console shows which of your pages Google skipped and why, and lets you submit your sitemap. Add your site there.

Does GoDaddy's SEO tool put my site on Google?

No tool can do that. GoDaddy's SEO tool adds keywords to your pages. Google decides whether to index them, and Search Console shows what it decided.
