Bing not indexing your site? Find the status, then the fix
Bing shows a status for each page in Bing Webmaster Tools. Each guide below explains one, in Bing's exact words, with the causes and the steps to fix it.
Start here
- Add your site in Bing Webmaster Tools. Import from Google Search Console is the fastest way: Bing adds and verifies your sites and copies your sitemaps.
- Open URL Inspection and enter your home page. Read the status line. It tells you which guide below applies.
- Open Site Explorer and look at the filters. They group your pages by the problem Bing found.
- If you see no status at all, or the site is missing from Bing, start with the blockers people miss.

Filters in Site Explorer
How Bing groups your pages when something keeps them off Bing.
- "URLs with guideline issues"Bing crawled the page and chose not to show it. In Site Explorer it sits under Excluded or "URLs with guideline issues". Here is what to change.
- "URLs that are robots.txt disallowed"A robots.txt rule tells Bingbot not to crawl these pages. Find the line that matches, check whether you meant it, and fix it if not.
- "URLs with NOINDEX tag"These pages ask Bing not to show them, and Bing follows the rule. Remove the tag from pages you want on Bing. Keep it on the rest.
- "URLs that are redirecting"These addresses send Bingbot to another page. That is fine for old addresses. It is a problem when your sitemap or links still point to them.
- "URLs with crawling issues (deadlinks)"Bingbot asked for these pages and got a 404 or 410. Fix the ones that should exist, redirect moved pages, and let deleted pages go.
- "URLs with crawling issues (server errors)"Bingbot got a 403 or a 5xx from your server. Often a firewall blocks Bingbot. Sometimes the server is too slow. Here is how to tell and fix it.

Why Bing matters for AI answers
Bing's guidelines say Microsoft Copilot and Bing search rely on the same crawling, indexing, and ranking. A page Bing has not crawled can't be cited in Copilot answers. Bingbot also needs to get past your firewall: see Bingbot and the other AI crawlers.
With CrawlCoach
Connect Bing Webmaster Tools on any paid plan. CrawlCoach lists the pages that are on Google but that Bing has not crawled, or has not crawled in 90 days. On Pro and Agency, CrawlCoach sends those pages to Bing for you, up to Bing's daily limit, and tells Bing about new and changed pages. Your clicks from Bing show next to Google's. To tell Bing about changes yourself, see the IndexNow guides.
