Wix pages not indexed: causes and fixes

Wix makes your sitemap for you. But dynamic pages and page settings often keep pages out of Google.

The three most common reasons on Wix

Crawled - currently not indexed

Why it happens: Dynamic pages with little text per item look like the same page over and over.

The fix: Add a long text field to the collection and write real content for the items that matter. Remove empty items.

Excluded by 'noindex' tag

Why it happens: Each page has a setting that hides it from search engines. If you copy a hidden page, the copy is hidden too.

The fix: Open the page's SEO basics settings and turn on Let search engines index this page.

Discovered - currently not indexed

Why it happens: Google visits new Wix sites slowly at first, if they have many pages and few links from other sites.

The fix: Link new pages from your menu or home page. Get a few links from real sites in your field.

Where your sitemap is

Wix makes your sitemap at /sitemap.xml and updates it when you publish. If you connect Search Console from the Wix SEO dashboard, Wix submits the sitemap for you.

Settings that hide pages on Wix

  • The site-wide setting that stops search engines from indexing the site, in the SEO settings.
  • Member-only and password-protected pages.
  • An unpublished site, or a site that is still on a free Wix subdomain you never submitted.

To tell Bing about changes too, see IndexNow on Wix.

Questions

Do I need to submit a sitemap on Wix?

If you connected Search Console through Wix, it submitted /sitemap.xml for you. Otherwise, submit it once in Search Console.

Why are my Wix dynamic pages not indexed?

Usually because each item has too little unique text. Google indexes the items that stand on their own first.
