"Duplicate without user-selected canonical": what it means and how to fix it
Google sees the page as a duplicate of another page, and the page has no canonical tag.
What it means
Google found another URL with the same or very similar content and chose that URL as the main version. Because this page has no canonical tag, Google made the choice for you.
Common causes
- The same content is available at more than one URL, for example with and without a trailing slash,
www, or URL parameters. - Product or location pages share almost all of their text.
- Print or AMP versions exist without canonical tags.
How to fix it
- Add a
rel="canonical"tag that points to the version that you want indexed. - Redirect duplicate URLs to the main URL with a
301. - If the page should be unique, rewrite it so that its content is clearly different.
How to find these pages
In Search Console, open Indexing > Pages and select the "Duplicate without user-selected canonical" row. Search Console shows up to 1,000 example URLs. CrawlCoach checks up to 10,000 URLs from your sitemap for each site and groups them by cause, so you fix the most valuable pages first.
