"Indexing requested" in Search Console: what happens next
Google added the page to its crawl queue. It will visit, then decide whether to index it. The request does not promise indexing.
- Request indexing
- Indexing requested

What it means
When you click Request indexing, Google runs a quick live check. If the page passes, Google adds it to its crawl queue and shows "Indexing requested".
Google's help says indexing typically takes a day or so, but can take much longer, up to a week or two. It also says a request does not guarantee the page will be indexed.
Asking again does not help. Google's docs say requesting a recrawl many times for the same page won't get it crawled any faster.
Where it shows: In the message that opens after you click Request indexing in URL Inspection.

- Google crawled it and chose not to index it: Crawled - currently not indexed.
- Google picked another page as the canonical.
- Google has not crawled it yet. The queue can take days.
- Something blocks it that the quick check did not catch.
How to check which cause applies
- Inspect the page again after a few days. Compare the Last crawl date with the day you asked.
- If Last crawl is newer and the page is still not on Google, read the new Page indexing reason.
- Search for the exact address on google.com to see if it shows.
How to fix it
- Wait a few days before you check. Don't request the same page again.
- Link to the page from pages that are already on Google. Links help Google find the page and see that it matters.
- For many pages, rely on your sitemap with correct
lastmoddates, not one request per page.
With CrawlCoach
On paid plans, the Open in Search Console button in CrawlCoach copies the page address and opens Search Console, where you click Request indexing. CrawlCoach then checks the page with Google every day for 14 days. It shows under Waiting for Google until Google adds it. Google makes the final call on what it indexes.
Related Page indexing reasons
- Discovered - currently not indexed: Google knows the page exists but has not visited it yet.
- Crawled - currently not indexed: Google visited the page and chose not to show it in search, usually because the page added too little.
- URL is unknown to Google: Google has not found this page anywhere yet.
Questions
How long after "Indexing requested" will my page be indexed?
Google's help says it typically takes a day or so, but can take up to a week or two, and sometimes longer. A request does not guarantee indexing.
Should I request indexing again if nothing happened?
No. Google says repeat requests for the same page won't get it crawled faster. Inspect it again after a few days and read the reason.
Does Request indexing work for many pages?
It is meant for a few pages. For many new or changed pages, Google's help says your best choice is a sitemap with the changed pages marked by lastmod.
Who can request indexing?
Google's docs say you must be an owner or a full user of the Search Console property.
