How to set up IndexNow on WordPress

WordPress does not send IndexNow by itself. The official IndexNow plugin and most SEO plugins do.

IndexNow on WordPress: Through a plugin or app

Set it up

  1. Choose one plugin: the official IndexNow plugin, Yoast SEO, Rank Math, AIOSEO, or SEOPress.
  2. Turn on its IndexNow setting. The plugin makes the key file for you.
  3. Publish or update a post. Then check the plugin's log for a 200 or 202 response.

With CrawlCoach

Use one plugin or CrawlCoach, not both. To use CrawlCoach, upload its key file to your site's main folder with your host's file manager.

Good to know

  • Turn on IndexNow in only one plugin, so each change is sent once.

What IndexNow does, and what it does not

IndexNow tells Bing and other search engines, such as Yandex, Naver, Seznam, and Yep, that a page changed. Google does not use it. For Google, submit your sitemap in Search Console and fix the reasons Google gives for skipping pages.
