How to set up IndexNow on Next.js

On Next.js, put the key file in the public folder. Then send an IndexNow request after each deploy, or let CrawlCoach send it.

IndexNow on Next.js: You set it up, or CrawlCoach does

Set it up

  1. Make a key: 8 to 128 letters, numbers, or hyphens.
  2. Save it as public/KEY.txt. Use the key as the file name, and put only the key inside.
  3. Deploy. Then open https://your-domain/KEY.txt to check that it loads.
  4. After each deploy, send a POST request to https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow with host, key, keyLocation, and urlList (the pages that changed).

With CrawlCoach

On Pro and Agency, CrawlCoach gives you the key. Save it in public, deploy, and click verify. From then on, CrawlCoach tells Bing when your pages change.

Good to know

  • One request can hold up to 10,000 pages. A 202 response means the key is still being checked. That is normal for a new key.
  • This works the same on Vercel, Netlify, and other hosts that serve the public folder at your site's main address.

What IndexNow does, and what it does not

IndexNow tells Bing and other search engines, such as Yandex, Naver, Seznam, and Yep, that a page changed. Google does not use it. For Google, submit your sitemap in Search Console and fix the reasons Google gives for skipping pages.

For the Google side on Next.js, see Next.js pages not indexed.
