Product snippets "Missing field" warnings, and which to ignore

Most Product snippets warnings are non-critical. Missing field "review" or "aggregateRating" usually means the page has a price but no ratings, and Google's own docs say that can trigger a warning you can leave.

Product snippets add a price, stars, or a review count to your search result. Google requires only a name and one of offers, review, or aggregateRating. The warnings below ask for extras.

Missing field "review" and Missing field "aggregateRating"

These two show up together on products that have a price and no reviews. Google's product snippet docs say the Rich Results Test may warn when you give offers without review or aggregateRating. Nothing is broken.

  • No reviews on the product yet? Leave the warning. Adding empty or made-up ratings breaks Google's review guidelines.
  • Reviews show on the page but not in the markup? Your review app or theme isn't writing them. Turn on its structured data setting, or ask its support.
  • WooCommerce: its own markup adds aggregateRating and up to 5 recent reviews once a product has approved ratings and star ratings are on.

Missing field "offerCount" (in "offers")

This one appears when the offer is an AggregateOffer, the type for a price range. Google requires lowPrice and priceCurrency in it, and recommends highPrice and offerCount. Add offerCount, the number of offers in the range.

  "offers": {
    "@type": "AggregateOffer",
    "lowPrice": 79,
    "highPrice": 109,
    "priceCurrency": "USD"
  }
}
</script>
After

    "lowPrice": 79,
    "highPrice": 109,
    "priceCurrency": "USD",
    "offerCount": 3
  }
}
</script>

Google's docs also say not to use AggregateOffer for a set of product variants, such as sizes or colors. It's meant for one product sold by several sellers. For variants, Google has separate product variant markup.

Missing field "priceValidUntil" (in "offers")

This one has its own page, because a wrong date can do real harm: Missing field "priceValidUntil".

The one Product snippets error that is critical

If the report says Either "offers", "review", or "aggregateRating" should be specified, the product gets no rich result until you fix it. See how to fix the Either "offers", "review", or "aggregateRating" error.

Questions

Should I fix "Missing field review" in Product snippets?

Only if the page shows real reviews that the markup leaves out. If the product has no reviews, leave the warning. It doesn't stop the price from showing.

Why do I see Product snippets warnings when I already have Merchant listings?

Product markup on a store page feeds both reports. Google's docs say the Merchant listings report also checks product snippet markup that has an offer, so a store can mostly work from Merchant listings.
