Is there a Google Search Console alternative?
Nothing replaces Search Console: only Google has its index data. Here is where it falls short, and the free and paid tools that fill each gap.

No tool replaces Google Search Console. It is the only place Google shows its own data about your site: which pages it indexed, why it skipped the rest, and which searches showed your pages. Other tools read that data through Google's API, or estimate it from the outside.
So the useful question is what to add. Search Console is free and exact, but it has limits. Here is each one, and the tool that covers it.
| Topic | Search Console | What to add |
|---|---|---|
| Index status for each page | The Page indexing report lists up to 1,000 example URLs per reason. URL Inspection checks one page at a time. | CrawlCoach reads Google's verdict for each page in your sitemap, up to 50,000 URLs per site, sorted by reason. |
| What to fix first | Groups pages by reason, with no order of importance | CrawlCoach's fix list puts the top fixes first, with the steps for each |
| Alerts | Emails about important events, such as a new issue | CrawlCoach paid plans email you when a page drops off Google |
| Rows in a table | Up to 1,000 rows | The Search Console API (up to 25,000 rows per request) or the Looker Studio connector |
| History | 16 months | Bulk data export to BigQuery, or API data you save yourself |
| Bing | Google only | Bing Webmaster Tools, free, with an import from Search Console |
| Crawl data | The Crawl stats report counts most of Google's requests, on root-level properties only | Your server logs for every request, and a crawler such as Screaming Frog SEO Spider for your own crawl |
| Rankings | Average position across all the searches that showed a page | A rank tracker, for the keywords and places you choose |
| Many sites | One property at a time | Looker Studio reports with several properties, or a tool built on the API |
What Search Console does well
It is free, and the data comes from Google. URL Inspection shows what Google crawled, which canonical it chose, and why a page isn't indexed. Request indexing and Validate fix exist only there. So do the Manual actions, Security issues, and Removals reports. Keep it, whatever else you add.
Free tools that fill the gaps
Bing Webmaster Tools is Bing's own version of Search Console, and it is free. Import from Google Search Console adds your verified sites and sitemaps in one step.
Ahrefs Free, the new name for Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, gives verified sites a Site Audit that checks for over 170 technical issues. It includes 5,000 crawl credits per project each month and a list of the sites that link to you.
Screaming Frog SEO Spider runs on your computer. Its free version crawls up to 500 URLs per crawl. The paid licence adds JavaScript rendering and more, and the tool can pull data from the Search Console APIs.
Looker Studio connects to Search Console for free. Each data source covers one property, and one report can hold several.
Bulk data export sends your performance data to BigQuery every day, including everything except anonymized queries. It starts from the day you set it up. Google Cloud charges for storage and queries beyond a free level.
Where CrawlCoach fits
CrawlCoach works on top of Search Console. You sign in with Google, and it reads Google's verdict for each page in your sitemap, up to 50,000 URLs per site. It sorts the skipped pages by the reason Search Console gives, puts the fixes in order, and explains each one in plain words. Paid plans check every day and email you when a page drops off Google. The free report covers up to 500 pages, once.
Do you need anything else?
A small site with a few dozen pages often needs only Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Add a tool when you hit one of the limits above: too many pages to inspect one by one, more than 16 months of history, or more sites than you can open each week.
Questions
Is there a free alternative to Google Search Console?
Not for Google's own data. Only Search Console shows which of your pages Google indexed and why. Free tools fill the gaps around it: Bing Webmaster Tools for Bing, Ahrefs Free and the free Screaming Frog SEO Spider for site audits, and Looker Studio for reports.
Can I see more than 16 months of Search Console data?
Not inside Search Console. Start a bulk data export to BigQuery, or save API data on a schedule. The export only covers days after you set it up. The API can still reach back 16 months when you start.
How do I get more than 1,000 rows from Search Console?
Use the Search Console API. It returns up to 25,000 rows per request, and you page through more with startRow. Google says it returns the top rows, not every row. The bulk export to BigQuery has all your performance data except anonymized queries.
Do other SEO tools get their data from Search Console?
Many connect to the Search Console API with your Google sign-in, so their Google numbers come from the same place. Numbers for sites you don't own come from the tool's own data, not Google's.
